Bravissimo recognises that as a national brand, local employer and socially responsible company it can make a significant difference to a range of good causes both large and small
As you might imagine over the years we've supported a number of charities which are involved with women and their boobs – such as Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Coppafeel – and we've sent bras to Africa via the Thare Machi Education Charity. In contrast we've supported other charities such as World Vision, Changing Faces and The Anthony Nolan Trust.
Following on from our success in raising over £32,000, smashing our target of £10,000, for our first ever national charity Tommy’s, Bravissimo staff have voted to support The Eve Appeal for the 2012/13 National Charity. Bravissimo and The Eve Appeal are working together to raise funds for vital research and to raise awareness of gynecological cancers. Every day in the UK, 51 women are diagnosed and 21 women die from a gynecological cancer – be that cancer of the ovaries, womb, cervix, vagina or vulva. That is 51 mothers, sisters, aunts, wives, receiving devastating news, and 21 families coping with the death of a loved one each and every day. Despite all of this, awareness and funding of gynecological cancers remains low. The Eve Appeal is determined to change this, striving for their vision: A future where fewer women develop and many more women survive gynecological cancers.
Bravissimo stores, warehouse and head office will be fundraising with cake stalls, bike rides, sponsored walks and climbs and themed parties over the next 12 months. We’ll also support The Eve Appeal through our in-store bra recycling scheme. You can recycle your old bras in whatever condition they’re in by popping them in the recycling bins in-store. For every kg we receive we’ll donate £1 to The Eve Appeal. The bras that are donated are all then recycled for good use. Those which are in a useable condition go directly to developing countries across the world. Those bras which cannot be used in their entirety are broken down into parts which are again recycled into new items. We will accept any bras in any condition - simply pop them into the recycling bins in store.
As a significant local employer we also support a range of local charities in Leamington and the surrounding areas. Our staff charity committee encourages staff to nominate local causes and looks out for local charity events we could support whether financially or otherwise. Here are some examples:
- We sponsored the training of a puppy for Dogs for the Disabled.
- We've given money to local schools for play equipment and books.
- We've donated to the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
- We've donated to the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre to help pay for counselling for victims.
- We've donated to Myton Hospice and co-sponsored their "moonlight walk".
We also give each of our 21 stores a charity budget to support charities or good causes in their local areas.
