One major focus for us is how we source and the type of fabrics that we use to make our lingerie and swimwear. We are currently sourcing fabrics across our lingerie and swimwear ranges that are more sustainable, compared to polyester and plastic based fabrics that are traditionally used. Unfortunately, due to prices and availability from suppliers it has been difficult to introduce these fabrics into our ranges over the last year, but we are starting to make progress across our swimwear ranges and have set ourselves targets for all our own brand lingerie too.
Swimwear fabric is usually made from plastic based polyester, so it’s been a priority for us to make the change to start to introduce styles that are made using recycled plastic where possible. As a result, this means that we can help to repurpose the plastic waste in the world which is a real positive on our footprint as a business. We are currently aiming to have between 40-50% of our own brand Bravissimo swimwear products to be recycled by Summer 2022 and this is an increase of about 20% of the Summer range of 2021.
For our Bravissimo own brand lingerie we have a real focus on growth in recycled lace that we use across both wired and non-wired styles. We are aiming for 20% of our Own Brand Bravissimo lingerie ranges to use recycled lace going forward. We have always had a real focus on sustainability within sports, we are continuing to grow how we use recycled fabric within these ranges and we will continue to use these recycled fabrics wherever possible in our Own Brand Bravissimo sports bras and activewear.
We also plan use more environmentally friendly fabrics through our Bravissimo beachwear and nightwear ranges in the future and we are currently exploring eco vero viscose, recycled polyester and organic cottons that we can source – watch this space!
We will continue to use more water free printing methods for fabrics too and aim for 80% of our printed fabrics used to be printed using water free methods.
Finally, at Bravissimo we are not about fast fashion. We aim to design high quality and long-lasting products that our community can enjoy year after year. We don’t overproduce or overstock our products – that means when we source our products for our ranges we only buy in what we think we can sell so we minimise waste. Whenever we do have small amounts of stock that we don’t sell, we donate these items to charities local to our head office in Leamington spa.
